Piles of Trash Found On Michigan Shores

Trail of trash have been found on the beaches of Michigan last week. Hundreds of pounds of trash were found ashore the 10-mile stretch of Lake Michigan beaches and vacationers were shocked seeing the long trail of trash.

The garbage includes wastes such as shredded straws, candy wrappers, pill bottles and needleless syringes, but Coast Guard said that the trash does not appear to be medical waste. Reports showed that some items have Wisconsin names and addresses written on them.

Kristie Cabating of the U.S. Coast Guard says they are still investigating where these trash really came from. Officials closed a Manistee beach where some garbage piles were up to eight inches high before crews began hauling it away by the truckload.

Residents and vacationers are concerned that the waves of trash will continue to pollute the once beautiful beaches. But the local health department took water samples from 21 beaches last Monday for analysis and found out no biohazards and no E coli problems.
